Valentine's Day

Let me start by wishing everyone a Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you all had a wonderful day full of love, gifts and chocolate.

Now I know today is a really controversial holiday in terms of how people feel about it, but I'm going to come right out and say that I adore this holiday.  For me, it's never been about finding that ONE person to be with or else spend the day bitter and hating the fact that you're alone. Well let me just say that while yes, you may be single, you are absolutely NOT alone. Love comes in many different forms and I think Valentine's day is meant for you to celebrate all different types of love in your life. Remember everyone important to you and just let them know that you're thinking of them.

Now that I've given my little speech, I will gladly get off my cheeky little soap box and tell you a lovely story of my Valentine's Day and how it didn't quite meet my expectations. Ready? Here we goooooo:
I started my day in the freezing snow sleet of NYC waiting outside a stage door for band members to come out because that is what my beau likes to do after concerts. Then we ran to catch the last train out at 1:22am, otherwise we would be stuck there over night which is not what I was looking to do. By time I got home and to bed it was nearly 4am. Then when I woke up later, I went into a panic because I had completely forgotten to do my Spanish homework. By time I finished, it was time for class so I went. All in all, not how I expected my day to go at all. But in the meantime, I texted, called, facebooked, tweeted basically used every form of communication possible to wish my friends and family a happy day full of love and chocolate. I made One Direction Valentines for my closest female friends (mostly because I really doubt the boys I hang out with would appreciate such a thing).

It was a relatively normal day, but this year was different than almost all others. Now I've never really received gifts on Valentine's Day and that is one thing I think I will never understand. Flowers and chocolate? Wonderful. Actual gifts where people spend uncomfortable amounts of money on each other because they feel obligated? Awkward. In fact I will probably make another post about gifts entirely; but for now, we'll keep it simple. This year my father got me, my mum, and my sister each a rose. My sister and I also got matching heart necklaces which are adorable. My mum got us all chocolate and everything was all fine and dandy. I've actually kind of forgotten what it's like to have a family Valentine's Day because I've spent the past three in Switzerland at university. Then my beau brought me flowers and took me out to dinner. Now let me say that never have I ever had a traditional or stereotypical or generic Valentine's Day like this. In all honesty, everything felt a little weird and uncomfortable. Then, at the end of the night right before I was about to to get out of the car, he gave me such a precious ring that I can't help but adore it. It truly is a beautiful gift and I definitely was NOT expecting it, and therefore was thrown for the biggest loop ever. But it made me think about how much money is spent every year if this was "normal" and I was a little disheartened that people feel the need to buy material things to prove either to themselves or to someone else how much they care. But I'll let you in on a little secret: no amount of money can buy someone's true affection if you don't make time for them and show them through your daily actions how much they mean to you. No amount of gifts can make up for that. So remember that next time and realize that being thoughtful and sincere  will buy you so much more than any gift ever will.

So guys, that was my day. I would love to hear about yours and how you spent it. Also if you have any thoughts on what Valentine's Day means or what it should mean, I would love to read your comments. Until next time!

Online Shopping

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like I might be one of the only females in the world who dislikes online shopping. Thoughts?

I don't know why I'm so opposed to it, honestly. Maybe it's because I never have a definite size or shape in clothing. I always need to see how it looks on me because I am not, unfortunately enough, the model body where it looks the same on me as it does on the model. For one, I have larger boobs and I need to make sure the pants are long enough. On top of that, I am incredibly indecisive. I may like a million and one things until I try them on. Then maybe I fancy two or three when I try them on on a good day. But as a poor college student, I can only choose one or two if any. I really want to make sure they are worth the money I am paying for them.

But with this crazy realm of online shopping, I can't do any of these things. And for some reason or another, I am terrified of the concept, or more likely too lazy, to send things back if I don't like them.
Infinity Ring in gold

But today, I ventured out and actually bought something online! (Or attempted, at least) It's jewelry, but baby steps, right? I tried to buy not one, but two infinity rings. Both in a 6.5 (I'm not exactly sure of my finger size, so I hope these will fit). I love the design of this particular ring very much because it it thin and dainty. When I looked for an infinity ring, this is what I really wanted out of it. The rhinestones weren't in my plan originally, but I think they look very pretty and complement the design nicely. I love the gold one, but realistically, I wear silver more often. I decided to get one in both so I can wear it on all occasions (and so my sister can borrow one as she is so prone to do with my things).

Anyway, I went through the paypal process and was almost ready to purchase when I noticed my email was mistyped. So naturally I went back and fixed it. Unfortunately, doing that did something to my card so it is not accepted for payment anymore. After several attempts, it proved useless. Figures that the one time I try to buy something, I mess it up somehow. I guess I'll have to try again tomorrow!

etsy.com has always been amazing and sells adorable products, but I've become obsessed with it recently. Hopefully I won't spend more than I can afford there!

Vlogging

Today I uploaded my first video EVER to YouTube. It is completely nerve wracking because I know the quality is poor and the content is a smidge boring. But I really really want to keep with making videos because I always have loved talking to myself. Haha but really, I love the idea of documenting your life in a way that helps you remember the little moments that make you laugh. I have made videos in the past, but they were just for fun. Now I want to take them to the next level and maybe show the world that maybe I'm not the quiet girl with nothing to say. Instead, I quite like to talk but can never think of what to say in the moment.

So hopefully, I will be posting better quality videos in the future with more interesting content. This is something that I really want to do and hope that maybe I can succeed at it. If you read my blogs and find them interesting in any way, shape, or form please let me know through a comment or suggestion. Maybe even add my blog to your read list if you're really interested.

That's all I wanted to get off my chest for now. Oh, and I really really want this ring: Should I get it in gold or silverr? http://pinterest.com/pin/83105555595845842/

Espresso Chiffon Cake

Happy Groundhog Day! On a completely unrelated note, today I forewent the makeup and made a 3 layer cake instead. I thought I would attempt to document this for you guys.

Let's begin! First of all, this is a three layer espresso chiffon cake with espresso-chocolate mousse filling, fudge frosting, and espresso buttercream piping.

My brother helping sift together the dry ingredients. :)

My best attempt to show egg whites whipping up and the other components of the cake before they're mixed together.

The batter and the prepared baking tin.

Anddddd the finished product. I didn't take a picture of anything past the first tin because I started to do a million and one things while each one cooled and cooked (I only have one round spring form pan and I made a three layer cake).

Yes, it was dark by time I finished the cake. This one has many steps but the main time consumption was waiting for each to cook, cool completely in the tin, then reline the tin to bake another one. I also took the picture when we were ready to eat it for dessert. Sorry the bottom picture looks so awful. I have never been able to cut a cake and make it look pretty. If you want the recipes I used, just let me know!
