Christmas Eve Traditions

Happy 24th day of Blogmas!

Ah! Christmas is tomorrow which is so terribly exciting!

I have been running around all day today, but I wanted to just let you know some of the things I do on Christmas Eve. Some of my favourite Christmassy things to do are actually Christmas Eve traditions.

Christmas Eve Dinner

Okay so I know this is big for some people and we do a nice dinner on the fancy Christmas china plates with our cream holly leaf tablecloth, matching cloth napkins, and classy Christmas glasses. For me, personally, I don't see how this is different than any other dinner (other than the fancy tableware and amount of things you need to handwash)

Why do you love your Christmas Eve dinner?

Reading all the Nutcracker Books

When I was a young'un, My mum would read the 24 Nutcracker books (which also could be hung on the tree) to me and my siblings. We would gather in her bed every night to listen to the next book. *Mind you each one is a tiny little excerpt about 4 sentences long*

As the years went on and we got older though, we have gotten into the groove of reading them all at the last possible moment so we can hang them on the tree.

Milk and Cookies

Okay so we really dropped the ball this year and didn't make chocolate chip cookies to be left out with some milk. But next year, I won't leave shopping til the last minute and will make cookies to leave out (for myself to eat later ;) )

Reindeer Food

This is my absolute FAVOURITE thing to do, don't ask me why.  I suppose we always made this in school, but I don't really recall actually doing this until my brother was in elementary school. He still believed in Santa and I just liked throwing glittery oats around, so it was a win-win.

When he got older and they stopped making reindeer food in school, I started making the stuff to throw around the yard on Christmas Eve. Every year, we scrounge up some glitter (from who knows where) and mix it up with some oats. When it gets good and dark (like 10 PM) we go outside and throw it around the front lawn. No matter how cold it is, we don't put on coats or warm layers and most times don't even put on shoes. There's just something nice about freezing while throwing glitter on your lawn haha

Presents under the Tree

Finally, before I go to bed, I put pretty much all of the presents under the tree. As the years progress, I put more and more presents under the tree (because my mum and dad just gave the job to me). My brother and sister put their few presents in stockings and under the tree before I shoo them off to bed so I can organize them into sections and they can't see their presents before Christmas morning.

Right so I'm off to throw some reindeer food then it's shower and present time. :) Let me know what you do with your Christmas Eve!

love always,
xo
